ArtArt in the park just got a lot more interesting thanks to Center for Outdoor Contemporary Art (COCA) and the support of the Neighborhood Parks Council of San Francisco.

The citywide exhibition, Open Skies: Celebrating the Frontier Spirit of Today’s Artists, features the site-specific work of 15 artists designed to celebrate the spirit of wonder, renewal and creative social action through community partnerships. The objective is to deliver extraordinary site-specific art projects of all media for families, residents and city visitors to enjoy.

“Open Skies offers an entirely new way to experience neighborhood parks by cultivating new forms of learning about nature systems, art-making and park stewardship,” said Elliot Lessing, executive director and chief visionary of COCA. “The unique, interactive exhibition invites families and individuals to grow their ideas regarding harmony, community-building and creative social action.”

COCA is a non-profit arts organization that brings together contemporary artists, community members, neighborhood groups, business leaders and city officials to produce cutting-edge works of contemporary art designed for outdoor public spaces.

“I believe Open Skies will offer a variety of life-enhancing experiences to our diverse communities, allowing local residents and visitors alike to explore San Francisco’s impressive parks system and lively arts community.” Said Mayor Gavin Newsom.

On October 19-21, 10 of the City’s favorite parks will be transformed. The event is free, open to the public from Noon to 5PM each day, and all ages are welcome. Rain or Shine! cocanow.org
