Even though Halloween in the Castro has been officially cancelled kids can still enjoy the macabre holiday in a safe unforgettable environment, San Francisco’s Exploratorium.

The Exploratorium will transformed into a cool Halloween headquarters with hands-on science and art activities, celebrity athletes and media personalities, food and drink donated by top Bay Area restaurants, costumed characters, face painting, mini pumpkin carving, silent auction, and trick-or-treat stations.

For the past decade Amy Wender and the nonprofit she started, the Wender Weis Foundation for Children (WWFC), has put on the ultimate trick or treat party. She describes it as an indoor Halloween wonderland for kids of all ages. Last year’s fundraiser raised $50,000 dollars, keeping a number of youth programs such as the Exploratorium's Children's Educational Outreach Program and Giants Community Fund in business.

WWFC is committed to encouraging at-risk, disadvantaged children throughout the San Francisco Bay and Chicagoland Areas. This year, Halloween Heroes will be held Monday, October 29, 2007 at San Francisco's Exploratorium. wenderweis.org
