ReUse People
Home building materials at a discount
May 8 | archive | subscribe
The ReUse People have opened up a new location in Pacoima and are set to service this entire area based in the Valley. The 501(c)3 non-profit offer building materials at a fraction of the cost of new materials.
This is particularly important to everyone in this time of economic recession. Many people who want to renovate their homes are having difficulties doing so--because of the cost. The items that the ReUse People puts back into the building community are sold on average at 50% less than comparable materials from big hardware stores. The materials are just as good--and are often better.
In addition to helping the environment, they provide jobs in deconstruction. These deconstruction workers are primarily people who have been injured in regular construction jobs-who would otherwise be on disability or unemployed. The majority of these workers are Spanish speaking and are often from lower-income neighborhoods in and around Los Angeles.
The ReUse People will be holding an Open House and Dedication on Friday May 9-10. The free two-day event, sponsored by The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB), will feature a tax credit workshop and guided warehouse walk-throughs.
The dedication and open house feature Speaker Programming and On-Site Tours. Speakers include the Founder and CEO of The ReUse People, Ted Reiff, Charles J. Corbett, Professor of Operations and Environmental Mgt. at UCLA and representatives from the City of Los Angeles and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Saturday May 10th open-house special, on-site tours and ‘Tax-Deductible Donations for Used-Building Materials’ workshop led by Ted Reiff. The open-house special is a Saturday-only sale for all doors for $5.00. thereusepeople.org
