Al GoreAl Gore, in an email statement, said he was deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He went on to say that "the climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity".

Then Al and his wife, Tipper, donated 100 percent of the proceeds of the award to the Palo-Alto based Alliance for Climate Protection, which he co-founded. The Alliance is a bipartisan non-profit organization that is devoted to changing public opinion in the U.S. and around the world about the urgency of solving the climate crisis.

Gore went on to say, “We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level.”

The Alliance for Climate Protection is undertaking a mass persuasion exercise based on scientific facts. Through a combination of non-partisan alliances, the nonprofit will focus on presenting the facts about climate change and its solutions to the general public in a compelling manner.

“Americans have always risen to meet the most important challenges to our nation’s and the world’s future. Together, we can address the climate challenge domestically and provide a robust economy for now and for our children.” Said a spokesperson for the Alliance for Climate Protection.

One of their goals is to persuade individuals, families, communities, states, corporations and other organizations to begin to quickly and meaningfully reduce their own global warming pollution — and to offset the remainder – in order to become ‘carbon neutral.’

One way in, which the alliance has been successful, was through this summer's Live Earth: The Concert for a Climate in Crisis. The alliance’s follow-up campaign persuaded thousands of Americans to lobby Washington on global warming issues. climateprotect.org
