Wine & Chocolate Soiree
To Benefit Special Kids Foundation

Special Kids Foundation (SKF) was born from the hearts and souls of parents who share a bond so common, yet so tragic; they knew their mission almost from their first meeting.
These parents have children with a multitude of special needs, from Down’s syndrome, to Cerebral Palsy, Bipolar Disorder to Epilepsy, from blindness to Autism…these parents have children who have irrevocably changed their lives, and challenged them to be the best they’ve ever been. Just keeping their families intact is sometimes a task that seems impossible.
SKF has a vision to provide support and services to more than 5,000 challenged families living in Eastern Contra Costa County with special needs children. Their goal is to build a facility that will provide a multitude of services, locally, to these families, and most importantly, their children. Currently there are very few resources for the therapies and treatments that children with disabilities need in our area. SKF wants to change that.
Their vision includes satellite offices for therapists (OT, PT, SLP, ABA Specialists, Behavioral Psychologists, to name a few), a nutrition center to aide families in planning and trying new diets and treatment plans under the guidance of a nutritionist, computer and internet access, a lending library for research and education, legal advocacy services, aqua-therapy and hippo-therapy, an all-abilities playground, support group meeting site, and respite care center.
They are already providing services to many of the families in our area. TOPSoccer will be beginning its third season this year, with neuro-typical “Buddies” helping the players on the field; Freedom League Baseball is underway in its second season following the same format as the soccer program for special needs kids. We support and organize Challenger Bowling, Music Makers, and are experimenting with our first dance class this spring. We have a support group that meets once a month, and an online chat group that has 95 members…and is growing.
SKF realizes there is so much more they can do, and they are working hard toward that end. Their strength and persistence is fueled by the incredibly brave children that surrounded them every day. And they truly are, very special kids.
