Wolfgang Puck Takes Postrio Green
The glamorous dining spot is better for it

Postrio is one of Northern California's most popular dining destinations and now more than ever since celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck has taken the restaurant green. "Our customers want to eat healthy food in good conscience," he recently told Reuters. The menu lists more dazzling vegetarian meals, and Puck has pledged to use only certified, sustainable seafood, and all-natural or organic chicken and turkey from progressive animal welfare-compliant farms, ending the use of foie gras, pork from sows and veal from calves kept in tiny crates, battery-caged eggs and more.
The vibe: Bustling, glamorous celebrity clientele hot spot, a see and be scene.
The crowd: Society, theatergoers, celebrities, travelers, along with young professionals dining at the bar.
The best seat: two balcony tables or front booths.
The good: The signature appetizer, Hamachi Tartare, Ahi carpaccio, lime nuoc cham, sesame oil, grapefruit-thyme granita. The signature drink, Farewell to Arms "Hemmingway's favorite cocktail with a twist; a shaken daiquiri using Oronoco Reserva rum and a splash of grapefruit juice combine to create an ultra smooth and inviting cocktail that begs to have the bells tolled."
The green: Postrio is a part of Wolfgang Puck's Fine Dining Group's initiative to use only organic and all-natural products when possible and to make every attempt to offer ingredients from local family farmers and purveyors. The entire restaurant--front of the house and back--recycles and composts. The menus are printed on recycled paper; energy efficient appliances and lighting are utilized when available.
The giving: Postrio supports local schools, foundations, health organizations and other non-profits through small donations and gift certificates. Major donations are awarded to SFSPCA, SF Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, SFIFF, and the SF Ballet.
Vitals: Breakfast 7-10 AM, café menu 11:30am-11:30pm, dinner 5:30-9:30pm 545 Post Street, San Francisco; (415) 776-7825.
