One of the most recognizable faces and names in Hollywood, Sharon Stone has been captivating audiences with her incredible talent, striking beauty, and outspoken personality for nearly three decades. Now admired as much for her philanthropy as for her work as an actor, Stone has been honored with multiple awards and distinctions for her contributions to AIDS-related work, with which she has been deeply involved since the early 90s.

Inspired to get involved after seeing many friends and coworkers in the industry fall victim to the disease, Stone has not only contributed financially, but as a board member and spokesperson as well. Today she serves as the global fundraising chairwoman for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR).

After her moving role as Ellen DeGeneres' partner in the film If These Walls Could Talk 2, Stone received a humanitarian award from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Additionally, Out magazine has named Stone one of the most influential people in gay culture. In 2005, Stone also received the Harvard Foundation's Humanitarian Award in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the fight against AIDS.

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
