Green

A Month of Green
Start living green with this month-long guide from myhomeideas.com

1) Fill the dishwasher with every use. Dishwashers use more energy the less they have in them. By running it with only full loads, you could save an estimated 100 pounds of carbon dioxide and $40 per year.

2) Fix leaks! As soon as you spot a leak at your house, fix it or contact your plumber to do so. Fact: Leaky toilets can waste 30 to 50 gallons per day per toilet, and leaky faucets can waste 15 to 20 gallons per day.

3) Take shorter showers. The water used in showers accounts for about 1/5 of the water used indoors. Bonus: Place a low-flow application on your showerhead to decrease the amount of water that comes out. MORE IN GREEN>>

Glass Food Containers

When heated, plastic containers can break down and leach chemicals into food. Reusable, durable lidded glass ones, like Ikea's 365+ line, are safer for your family and the planet. Use them to store leftovers or dry goods like pasta and beans. ikea.com

Andrew Christian

Los Angeles based clothing line, Andrew Christian, has been designing and producing contemporary menswear since 1997. This year the company released it's first women's line and a line of eco-friendly "bamboo" and "color block" men's underwear.

How does what you do relate to green, good or giving?
I design and produce my own line of underwear and sportswear under the Andrew Christian Label. I always try to market my product with the least amount of packaging possible. I think a lot of packaging is such a waste because it is immediately disposed of. I like to let my products stand on their own merits and not have a packaging gimmick to be sold. MORE IN PEOPLE>>

The Black and White Ball, the San Francisco Symphony's biennial fundraising gala, returns May 31 after a three-year hiatus with the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Seal as the headliner.

I ask spokesperson, Jon Finck, of Encore Communications, is Black + White the new Black?
It’s been the new black since 1956 when the San Francisco Symphony first started this event. It has always been a San Francisco Symphony fundraiser, and this year we are raising money for the Symphony’s Adventures In Music Education Program. MORE IN GIVING>>
