Eco-Kids Birthday Bash
Tips for throwing an earth friendly birthday party
So what makes a birthday party a birthday party? Let’s start with invitations. There are quite a few options for eco-friendly birthday invitations nowadays. Some of the options I are invitations made from recycled paper of course, there are also seeded invitations where each piece of paper is embedded with a mixture of annual and perennial wild flower seeds. Ask on your recycled invitations that guests bring traditional wooden toys or educational wooden toys that will last and last. From traditional wooden toy train set that any child would adore to Fire Engines and wooden puzzles, beautiful wooden jewellry and dolls, which are all manufactured in fully vetted factories. Or perhaps you could have guests bring a gift to donate to a worthy cause.
Ask that all gifts be wrapped in newspaper or fabric. The newspaper can be recycled and the fabric can be reused for a variety of other things.
Decorate with reusable dishes, utensils, tablecloths, and napkins as supplies and decorations. All of these can just be washed instead of being tossed. You can also buy compostable utensils. And if you do have any plastic, aluminum, or glass waste at the party, set out labeled recycle bins for the guests and encourage the kids to identify them and use them.
Avoiding conventional balloons would also be a good idea, use Japanese style paper balloons that are an eco-friendly substitute. Made from bright, crisp paper, giant traditional Japanese paper balloons will amaze you.
Parties are a time to have fun, but first you'll need to select a party theme. How about a do-it-yourself beeswax birthday candles party? Fragrance-free birthday candle making kits can be made in all different shapes and sizes.
Consider a nature party, which is eco healthy or socially responsible, like taking a field trip. Take a tour of an organic farm, a dairy farm or an orchard.
Why not plant a tree? At a nursery, purchase a tree native to your area that will provide habitat for a range of animals. Ask for planting instructions. Plant the tree in your yard or arrange with the park district to plant the tree in a local park. Have partygoers help you dig the hole and place and water the tree.
Children can also plant tree seeds at home or as part of a large-scale tree-planting effort during the party.
Okay, so now we arrive at the issue of food and specifically birthday cake. How about baking a batch of delicious healthy cookies, or a home-baked, low-sugar apple pie or a healthy carrot cake instead?
Planet-friendly party food can and should be a delight to look at and to eat, as well as being nutritious, the main thing to keep in mind when preparing parties for eco kids is to keep the food organic, simple and easy to eat.
So now you ready to throw a green birthday party bash.
