Amy Winehouse has been invited to open a new Rotterdam dance club in September for the tidy sum of $700,000.
The club, to be called Watt, is trying for a green remodel of a big, old Rotterdam dance and band venue called Nighttown. The club is set in the heart of the biggest drugs circuit in Holland. It is so out there that it might even shock Winehouse.
The backers of Watt have been pretty reticent about the exact details of how sustainable their dance club will actually be - instead letting the media rumors run rampant, but they have promised on the web site an energy-absorbing dance floor that will use the heat and motion of the gyrating masses to power LED lights, that the club's toilets will use rainwater for flushing, and that the different bars in the 2,000-capacity club will strive for zero waste.
Tycoon Aryan Tieleman has confirmed to the Dutch press that the troubled star is close to signing the deal and performing at the opening night of his new Rotterdam nightclub Watt on September 4. He said, “It is as good as certain,” though Winehouse has a bit of a history of gig no-shows.
Even in her delicate state she is lauded by the fashion world and was recently paid a whopping $1,375,000 to perform at Fendi’s new store during Paris Fashion Week, but despite being clearly worth millions now, Amy’s purse strings are kept tight by her family and management. watt-rotterdam.nl
